On 28th August, members of the Committee for Wyndham had the privilege of visiting the Parliament of Victoria for an exclusive tour hosted by John Lister MP, Member of Werribee.
Throughout the tour, Mr Lister shared the rich history and significance of Parliament House, offering valuable context into its role in shaping Victoria’s governance. Our members also had the opportunity to engage in an intimate and candid discussion with Mr Lister, exchanging perspectives on the challenges facing Wyndham and exploring the ways in which local representatives, including those from the Western Metropolitan Region, are addressing these important issues. The discussion continued over tea and coffee, allowing for meaningful connection and dialogue.
We were deeply honored by the presence of The Hon Jacinta Allan MP, Premier of Victoria, who took the time to meet with our members. The Premier engaged directly with attendees, learning more about their businesses and hearing firsthand their aspirations for the Wyndham region.
We were also joined by Mathew Hilakari MP, State Member for Point Cook, who, alongside Mr Lister, shared fascinating insights into the history, architecture, and traditions of Parliament House.
Our members were further privileged to observe both the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council in session, gaining a deeper understanding of parliamentary proceedings and the distinct roles each chamber plays in the legislative process.
The Committee for Wyndham extends its sincere gratitude to John Lister MP for his generosity in hosting the tour and facilitating open conversation with our members. We also wish to acknowledge the collaborative efforts of Wyndham’s MPs in working together to strengthen and support our growing community.
A special thank you is also extended to Katrina Bye of The Gordon, Committee for Wyndham Board Member, for joining us on this visit.
Finally, we thank our members for joining us in what was an engaging and insightful afternoon of dialogue, learning, and connection.
